government pinpoint Ashton Central and Ashton Waterloo as hotspots in the week from August 1 to August 7.In Ashton Waterloo, 12 positive cases were recorded within that time frame with 10 in Ashton Central. And on the streets of the market town, people are confused and angry about the guidelines and restrictions.

Cases of coronavirus in Tameside have more than doubled in a week, new figures have revealed.Statistics released by Public Health England (PHE) from July 26 up to August 2 show that there have been 34 positive cases of the virus across the borough.This is a more than 50pc increase on the previous week to July 26, where there were 16 residents who contracted coronavirus.The latest data shows that eight areas have had three or more cases, however areas which have two or fewer cases are not included in the data map – meaning Tameside’s total will likely be higher.The area with the highest number of Covid-19 cases for the last seven day period is Ashton Central, at eight incidences.This is followed by Dukinfield West with five cases.

hereHowever Hyde South is an outlier, with the rest of the borough seeing far fewer people pass away.The next highest is Mossley, with 14 deaths in the three month period, then Guide Bridge with 13 and Droylsden Central with 12.The postcodes around Ashton Waterloo and Dukinfield West have both recorded 11 deaths.Smallshaw and Ashton Central have also seen ten deaths each connected with coronavirus.The remaining 21 postcode areas have seen deaths in the single figures since the pandemic took hold in March.Denton North saw the lowest death toll across the borough, with just two people passing away in April and May.Tameside council’s director of public health Dr Jeanelle de Gruchy said: “We are very saddened by the deaths of any of our
