Alvvays proved they are much more than studio wiz-kids during a pair of shows at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park on Tuesday and Wednesday, co-headlining with veteran indie rocker Alex G. Singer/guitarist Molly Rankin is the pulsing heart of Alvvays, her voice powerful and clear through her hook-filled songs of melancholy.

EJ Panaligan editor With their first new album in five years and a long tour now underway, the members of Canadian dreampop outfit Alvvays are living the rock and roll dream. “We’re excited to be in a tin can for the next six weeks together, because that’s how healthy relationships function,” laughs singer Molly Rankin over Zoom from Toronto shortly before the band embarked on their U.S. tour, which began last Friday in Chicago. Prior to that, the group had just returned from a small run of release-week shows in the U.K. in support of their third album “Blue Rev,” which dropped on October 7th on Polyvinyl, and are now underway on their U.S. run which will conclude on November 18th in Boston. “There are many suitcases rolling around,” Rankin noted. “Lots of hasty cuts are being made about what to take and what not to take for the next six weeks.”

Alvvays have shared new tracks from their forthcoming third studio album ‘Blue Rev’ – watch the videos for ‘Belinda Says’ and ‘Very Online Guy’ below.‘Blue Rev’ follows 2017’s ‘Antisocialites’ and is set for release on October 7 via Transgressive. So far, it’s been previewed by the singles ‘Pharmacist’ and ‘Easy On Your Own?’.On ‘Belinda Says’, the band take inspiration from Belinda Carlisle’s ‘Heaven Is A Place On Earth’, singing: “Belinda says that heaven is a place on earth / Well, so is hell.”‘Very Online Guy’, meanwhile, sees vocalist Molly Rankin taking shots at an internet ‘reply guy’.
