An historic town hall in South Ayrshire is set to benefit from a million pound facelift, helping to preserve it for future generations.

Ayrshire Covid testing unit for people who are asymptomatic has closed after staff were redeployed elsewhereThe testing centre in Maybole Town Hall – the only centre available for residents in South Ayrshire – will close for a week.Those who require a test for coronavirus and are not displaying any symptoms will instead have to visit sites in North and East Ayrshire.Asymptomatic testing sites (ATS) are available at the Bridgegate, Irvine, The Boswell Centre in Auchinleck and Rose Reilly Sports Centre, Stewarton.

Maybole for people without symptoms from tomorrow.Residents who don’t have any of the three Covid-19 symptoms – a new continuous cough, high temperature, loss or change in sense of taste or smell – are encouraged to get tested.Lynne McNiven, director of public health for NHS Ayrshire & Arran, says testing helps to “identify more cases of the virus and give us all a better chance of stopping it from spreading”.Pop-up testing is part of the community testing initiative – in partnership with the Scottish Government, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, the University of West of Scotland (UWS) and the three local authorities in Ayrshire and Arran – to drive down local Covid rates and transmission.

Testing is available at Maybole Town Hall, High Street, Maybole, KA19 7BZ between 10am and 6pm from Monday, June 28 to Sunday, July 4.

Ayrshire town next week amidst rising case numbers.Health chiefs have confirmed that rapid coronavirus (COVID-19) testing will be available in Maybole for people with symptoms from next week.It comes after South Ayrshire was confirmed as the third highest infection rate across Scotland.Cases are currently 182 per 100,000 in South Ayrshire with a 5.3 per cent positivity rate.In Maybole seven positive cases have been identified between May 31 and June 6.The test centre will open at Maybole Town Hall between Monday, June 14 and Sunday, June 20 between 10am and 6pm.Residents who don’t have any of the three COVID-19 symptoms (a new continuous cough, high temperature, loss or change in sense of taste or smell) are encouraged to get tested.The
