Greece wildfires and your rights if you have a holiday booked to impacted areas

Wildfires in Greece have led to thousands of people to evacuate from Rhodes as evacuations are set to begin in Corfu.Firefighters are battling wildfires across Greece as the country faces a prolonged summer heatwave and extreme temperatures exceeding 45C.

More than 19,000 people have been evacuated from Rhodes and Corfu and Evia are the latest islands to issue evacuation orders.As Britons and holidaymakers return to the UK, uncertainties remain for those still in Greece - and those with holiday plans to come.The Greek government has issued areas of "extreme fire risk" alerts as wildfires rage in the popular holiday island of Rhodes.However, the Foreign Office is not currently advising against travel to Greece or Rhodes in particular.The current guidance currently states: "If you are planning to travel to Rhodes, please check with your travel operator or hotel prior to travel that the area you plan to visit is not impacted by the current wildfires."Many airlines have opted to cancel flights this week nevertheless.Jet2 has cancelled all holidays and flights to Rhodes up to and including Sunday, July 30.

The company says it will be contacting affected customers about refund and rebooking options. It is also sending repatriation flights from Rhodes.TUI has also cancelled flights to Rhodes through Tuesday, July 25 and affected passengers will receive full refunds.

Passengers that were due to fly on Wednesday, July 26 will be offered a fee-free amendment to another holiday.Additionally, Thomas Cook has cancelled some holidays in affected areas and offered full refunds.
