Hot on the heels of Wonder Woman 1984 coming out this past week, we have some news to report about the next film in the franchise. Simply put, Warner Bros. is anxious to get another sequel out into the world, and have made some moves in that direction. Reports today have WB signing up Gal Gadot to return as the title character and filmmaker Patty Jenkins back as writer/director for the impending trilogy. Exciting news for fans of the series, that’s for sure. Read on for more, though keep in mind, this is literally just the first word on a Wonder Woman 3.

Dune remake, is reportedly threatening lawsuits if the film does not see a standalone cinema release.According to Deadline, the company, which funded 75% of the movie, was said to be “blindsided” by the move from the movie’s distributor, Warner Bros, to redirect its 2021 slate of movies to a “hybrid” release – meaning they will arrive in cinemas and on streaming service HBO Max on the same day.The report also claims that talent reps are “fighting with Warner Bros for back end compensation” that they say would have been earned had the company not opted for earlier streaming releases.Dune was initially scheduled for global release on December 18.

Dave McNary, the veteran film reporter who covered the industry for more then two decades at Variety and was a friend to many of us at Deadline, has died at 69. His wife, Sharon McNary, veteran journalist and KPCC-FM infrastructure correspondent, confirmed the news on Saturday morning.

Warner Bros. isn’t reporting any official box office results for Wonder Woman 1984 on its opening Christmas Day –which various sources tell us was commendable for the pandemic, disastrous by normal marketplace conditions– but various HBO Max users are taking to social media, in particular the @HBOMaxHelp Twitter handle to voice their grievances over either streaming glitches or problems logging on.

We’re all still digesting the recent news that Warner Bros. is going to be putting all of their 2021 slate on HBO Max, as well as in theaters. It’s a massive shift for tentpole releases, obviously. Moreover, we learned that the filmmakers and producers of the WB movies were largely in the dark about it, too, which was surprising. Now, at least one film is hoping to be the exception to that rule, and it’s Denis Villenueve’s impending Dune remake. It might be an uphill battle, but the potential franchise is hoping for an exclusion from the big plan next year. So, the final word on the HBO Max move has not been said, at least just yet. When the news that HBO Max was going to be the day-and-date home for all of Warner Bros.’ major 2021 releases, including the highly-anticipated “Dune,” the industry was shaken. And it didn’t take long at all for Legendary, the co-financiers and co-producers of “Dune,” to come forward with a legal challenge.

2020 was anything but easy, but for HBO Max subscribers and those who live someplace where it's safe to go to the movie theater, it's at least ending with a super-powered holiday gift. DC Comics'  will premiere on the streaming service on Christmas Day — Friday, Dec.

Dune producers and director Denis Villeneuve are not happy with Warner Bros’ decision to move the movie to HBO Max for streaming in October 2021, foregoing a major wide release.

Though the recent deal between Warner Bros. and HBO Max that sends the studio’s entire 2021 film lineup to the streaming service day-and-date with theaters doesn’t officially begin until January with “The Little Things,” many see “Wonder Woman 1984” as the test case for the new paradigm.

“Wonder Woman 1984” — Warner Bros.’s much-anticipated sequel to its superhero franchise starring Gal Gadot — suffered a weak weekend debut in China, where it earned a mere $19 million in ticket sales, or less than half of what Hollywood had expected. Media watchers had pegged the follow-up film to 2017’s “Wonder Woman” to reel in at least $40 million in the Middle Kingdom.

Warner Bros. has said time after time that the money spent on Zack Snyder’s director’s cut of “Justice League” (reportedly around $70 million) isn’t the beginning of a new trend, but instead, it’s a one-time bit of goodwill given to a filmmaker that saw his feature effectively taken from him and turned into something…really bad.
