Coronation Street actor Charlie De Melo says he’s “out of his depth” on the ITV soap after it was announced he had quit the cobbles for good. The actor is best known for playing lawyer Imran Habeeb on the cobbles, a role he’s had since 2017.Since joining up, Imran has been through plenty, including dealing with the death of his sister Rana Nazir and battling for custody of Alfie, the baby he shares with Abi Franklin. And now, as he’s up for a National Television Award, Charlie says he’s “out of his depth”.Charlie is long-listed for the Serial Drama Performance award at the NTAs, along with his co-stars Sally Carman (Abi), Maureen Lipman (Evelyn), Georgia Taylor (Toyah), Millie Gibson (Kelly) and Harriet Bibby (Summer).Taking to Twitter to share the news, he wrote: “Well this is very thrilling and as close to a metaphor about my working life on’t cobbles as it’s possible to get.“Well out of my depth, propped up, surrounded and bettered by extraordinary, talented, powerful women.

Very proud to be in your company. Thank you.”Fans quickly rushed to support him, with one writing: “Out of your depth?? Nooo, you’re a scuba diver!

By far this year’s Corrie leading man and you’re definitely fulfilling the job well.”It comes after Charlie slammed his Corrie character Imran after it emerged he was quitting the cobbles for good.He told Daily Star last year: “I certainly think Imran is [a selfish character].

I think he’s far more selfish than he would let on."One of the few things you’re told when you’re starting out as actors is that you’re never really supposed to judge your characters, you’re supposed to go into it with a neutral head.
