A hospital has banned most visitors unless there are ‘exceptional circumstances’ in a bid to help combat the spread of coronavirus.

The Royal Bolton Hospital in Farnworth, Greater Manchester says it is discouraging visitors for visiting except in the most serious of cases.

Hospital chiefs have announced that the vast majority of people will no longer be able to visit friends and family being treated at the facility.

Those visiting their children will be allowed in - as will main carers, birthing partners and loved ones of patients receiving end of life care.
