World Cup 2022.The nation missed out on entering the competition for the first time in 16 years after being beaten by Ghana on home turf, in a result that sent the home fans into an absolute frenzy. Subsequent rioting got so bad that tear gas had to be deployed on the pitch as enraged supporters started smashing up the dugout as well as other parts of the Abiola National Stadium.Police soon had to intervene as scenes started to turn ugly. The players had to run for cover as projectiles were launched onto the pitch, as Nigeria fans made their fury at a World Cup snub known.
