Oscars telecast might not want to get too comfortable when they take their seats at Union Station.That’s because the show’s producers are weighing a plan that would rotate nominees and presenters in and out of the area where the awards are being handed out as a COVID precaution. Cleaning crews will then sanitize the area before the next batch of nominees and presenters take their seats.

Oscars have been told they will not be allowed to attend the ceremony via Zoom.In a letter sent to nominees and published by Deadline, producers said a virtual appearance is not allowed and the Academy will accept awards on behalf of any winner unable to make the show.The letter, from producers of the show Steven Soderbergh, Stacey Sher and Jesse Collins, states: “For those of you unable to attend because of scheduling or continued uneasiness about traveling, we want you to know there will not be an option to Zoom in for the show.“We are going to great lengths to provide a safe and ENJOYABLE evening for all of you in person, as well as for all the millions of film fans around the world, and we feel the virtual thing will diminish those

Clayton Davis Television and live events veteran Glenn Weiss will return to direct the 93rd Academy Awards.“Our plan is that this year’s Oscars will look like a movie, not a television show, and Glenn has embraced this approach and come up with ideas of his own on how to achieve this. We’re thrilled to have him as part of the brain trust,” said show producers Jesse Collins, Stacey Sher and Steven Soderbergh.Weiss has directed five previous Oscar ceremonies, two of which earned him Primetime Emmys.

Here’s an interesting bit of news that dropped today. As many of us speculate about what the Oscar ceremony this time around will look like, the Academy has opted to name its producers for the 2021 telecast. In an interesting turn, they’re going with a filmmaker who has experience working in various forms of media, tapping Steven Soderbergh. Soderbergh will produce alongside Jesse Collins and Stacey Sher, making it a three-pronged team this time around.
