As you hopefully already know, Hulu’s “The Dropout,” is terrific, and Amanda Seyfried is incredible in her layered depiction— something between absolute confidence, desperation, and legitimate imposter syndrome—of Elizabeth Holmes, the former CEO of Theranos, the embattled tech/healthcare startup that lied to its investors, employees, and partners creating a major fraud sh*tstorm in 2018 when their grift became exposed (read our review here). A tiny drop of blood, instead of a needle and a lab, and a radical idea to revolutionize medicine, disrupt the entire health care system, and maybe even change the world. This was the infamous Elizabeth Holmes/ Theranos story: a young, ambitious entrepreneur with a bold idea, inspiring a great suspension of disbelief in a lot of people dying to believe in her.
