Emily Longeretta Season 12 of “Chicago Fire” may be a shortened season, but it’s going to be an emotional rollercoaster, according to executive producer Andrea Newman. In a new interview with Variety, Newman — who became the sole showrunner this season after previously serving as co-showrunner with Derek Haas — teased that the new season “really jumps out with a bang, literally.” With both Alberto Rosende and Kara Killmer, who portray Blake Gallo and Sylvie Brett, respectively, exiting the series this year, and the return of Taylor Kinney’s Kelly Severide, nothing is off limits. In the Season 11 finale, Casey (Jesse Spencer) proposed to Sylvie — who is wearing a ring in the below photo, for what it’s worth — Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) left town to go find her husband and Mouch (Christian Stolte) was left bleeding out in the hospital after being hit by shrapnel during a call.

After being rushed to the hospital, the firehouse was alerted that it wasn’t a bullet and that he was alert and recovering. However, in the final moments of the episode, Herrmann (David Eigenberg) was by Mouch’s side when he realized that he was looking pale. He looked down and saw that Mouch had been bleeding — and then flat-lined. As the camera panned out, it became clear why the title of the episode was “Red Waterfall,” as blood ran off the side of Mouch’s hospital bed and Herrmann screamed for a doctor.

During the May 24 Season 11 finale of “Chicago Fire,” Jesse Spencer will return to make a guest appearance. Taylor Kinney, who last appeared during the Feb. 22 episode and stepped away to deal with a personal matter, will not return. Spencer exited Dick Wolf’s firefighter procedural in 2021 after 200 episodes. He has made multiple appearances since his departure, including during Severide’s wedding on the Season 10 finale. He came back again earlier this season, starring in the April 5 episode, “Danger Is All Around.” At the time, his storyline was left open, hinting that Casey could return to Chicago. The character originally moved to Oregon to take care of a late friend’s children and made a three-year commitment to a new job.

Despite fan speculation, Chicago Fire star Taylor Kinney is not going to appear in the season 11 finale. As Deadline previously reported exclusively, the fan favorite who plays Kelly Severide, has been on a leave of absence since January, dealing with a personal matter. Chicago Fire alum Jesse Spencer, who starred as Matt Casey alongside Kinney for 10 seasons, returned earlier this season and will guest star again in the season finale.

Taylor Kinney made the military his focus as he returned to the red carpet on Saturday after taking a hiatus from the spotlight. The "Chicago Fire" star stopped by the Red Bull Grand Prix of The Americas for MotoGP races at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, with his girlfriend, Ashley Cruger.  Kinney, 41, attended the MotoGP VIP Experience & Charity Giving event for the MotoUp nonprofit, which benefits veterans through the "active participation and involvement in the global motorsports community."  Kinney looked relaxed at the motorcycle event, and wore a pair of jeans with a black T-shirt and a black hat.  Cruger shared a few behind-the-scenes images to her social media platforms of their day at the race, including jumping on a bike to test out turning styles.
