A criminal complaint filed in Los Angeles says that Ortiz and codefendant Armando Miguel Navarro attempted to kill Brian Duke, People reports.The complaint states that the two tried to murder the individual ‘for the benefit of, at the direction of, and in association with a criminal street gang with the specific intent to promote, further and assist in criminal conduct by gang members’.The document also alleges that Navarro used a handgun to shoot Duke on May 24.Both pleaded not guilty during a court appearance in Los Angeles yesterday and are due back in court for a preliminary hearing on September 22. Ortiz could face 25 years in prison if he is convicted.
