Cops dropped by Paramount Network amid race tensions after 33 seasons

Cops has been dropped by the Paramount Network after 33 seasons on air, as protests against police continue across the globe.

The US TV show, which followed the police in action on a variety of cases and arrests, was pulled from air after the death of George Floyd.

The 46-year-old was killed by a Minneapolis police officer, who knelt on his neck for nine minutes, and has sparked Black Lives Matter protests on both sides of the Atlantic.

A spokesperson for the cable channel said in a statement on Tuesday: "Cops is not on the Paramount Network and we don't have any current or future plans for it to return," The show had been temporarily removed from air when protests aimed at police began to gain momentum.
