Beyoncé's first single from her upcoming RENAISSANCE (Act 1) album, BREAK MY SOUL, is finally here. Less than a week after the Destiny's Child star announced news of her seventh solo studio record, the first Robin S-sampling, Big Freedia-featuring taste of the LP is now with us.
Ahead of the full album's release on July 29, BREAK MY SOUL sees Bey explores a more dance direction, with production credits from The-Dream (Terius Nash), Christopher 'Tricky' Stewart and Beyoncé herself.
Once again teaming up with New Orleans bounce MC Freddie Ross Jr., known by stage name Big Freedia, who she last worked with on 2016 Lemonade track Formation, Beyoncé details the monotony of the 9-to-5 hustle over a pulsating, '90s-reminiscent piano house beat. 'Work by nine/Then off past five/And they work my nerves/That’s why I cannot sleep at night,' she sings over the throbbing production.
