SoundCloud has announced that it is partnering with Sony Corp on its First On SoundCloud artist accelerator programme this year, offering more opportunities to selected artists to develop their careers. It’s specifically the bit of Sony that makes audio devices and technologies that is getting involved.The artists chosen to participate this year are Wolfacejoeyy, DJ_Dave, Nitepunk, Sojabrat, and Sim0ne, all of whom – we’re told – are “creating new musical landscapes in a unique way that can only be done on SoundCloud”.They will be given access to one-to-one mentoring, early access to SoundCloud beta tools and new Sony audio creation technologies, marketing support, opportunities to perform at SoundCloud and Sony-hosted events, and more.“First On SoundCloud has always been about empowering emerging artists and fostering music discovery for our listeners”, says Emmy Lovell, Global Head Of Music at SoundCloud.“Partnering with Sony’s audio team is a great step in this mission”, she continues.

Thania Garcia SoundCloud will be supporting the careers of five up-and-coming artists with their six-month accelerator program, “First on SoundCloud.” This year’s picks are all over the map in sound, representing the striking evolution of styles that range from Brooklyn bass to Algorave, aka music created using computer code. In tandem with Sony, SoundCloud has selected artists: wolfacejoeyy, DJ_Dave, Nitepunk, Sojabrat, and sim0ne to receive creative support from the platform’s in-house tools for music discovery. Read more about their backgrounds below. “First on SoundCloud” was launched in 2018 and was later expanded into a year-long program in 2021 designed to work directly with each individual artist to connect them with new audiences and fortify connections with existing fans. The program has helped launch the careers of several established acts who got their start on the platform including Kehlani, Baby Rose, Peggy Gou and Little Simz.

APPOINTMENTSSoundCloud has appointed Emmy Lovell as its Global Head Of Music. Formerly at Warner Music, Lovell joined Napster as Chief Strategy Officer in 2021, becoming CEO last year following that company’s acquisition by Hivemind and Algorand.
