He was placed into a medically-induced coma and has been awake since May, but is still unable to speak due to being on a ventilator to help his lungs.
Speaking to CBS This Morning co-host Gayle King, Amanda revealed that the ‘ultimate goal’ is for Nick to get a double lung transplant.Amanda explained: ‘He’s stable.
Nick’s body is extremely weak. Muscles have atrophied, so he can’t move his body yet. … He can still open his eyes, and when he is alert and awake, he’ll answer commands by looking up or down, yes or no questions.
