Das Boot and Air Force One director Wolfgang Petersen dies aged 81
cancer at home with his wife Maria Borgel Petersen by his side, a rep confirmed. Petersen, who was born in Emden, Germany, directed various iconic films throughout his decades-long career, and directed Hollywood legends including Harrison Ford, Clint Eastwood, and Brad Pitt.He started out in 1974 with his first feature film, psychological thriller One or the Other of Us.Just a few years later, in 1982, his iconic film Das Boot, about a German submarine crew, was released.The film was nominated for six Academy Awards, and Petersen was nominated for two – best director and best adapted screenplay.
