Rutherglen Scout leader salutes teenage heroics a century on
Apple - Android Cuthbert Robb lived at 21 Stirling Drive, Burnside, close to the Scout hall which still stands today in Crawfurd Road. For a number of years, enthusiastic Scout Cuthbert – who became leader of the Otter patrol in 1920 – would enjoy family holidays in Rockcliffe on the Solway Firth. That same year, on July 18, 17-year-old Cuthbert and his friend Charlie were in the garden when they heard cries for help from the beach.Fully clothed, Cuthbert and Charlie leapt into the sea to rescue a boy from the waters’ strong tides – an act of heroism which earned them a certificate from the Royal Humane Society for their life-saving actions.
