They both went to Holmes Chapel High School and were both teenagers from rural Cheshire, but they could hardly have been more different.Matthew Mason’s family was raised in a million pound, six-bed farmhouse, Ash Farm, in Ollerton, near wealthy Knutsford.He got nine GCSEs and was set on an agricultural career. A student at Reaseheath College in Nantwich, where he was doing a three-year Agricultural Engineering course, he worked part-time at Ashbrooks, a plant and agricultural hire firm, either working in the yard or travelling around doing jobs.He lived with his churchgoing family - his mum, dad and two sisters - and enjoyed fishing and fixing farm machinery.His social life revolved around the local ‘Young Farmers’ group.
