Launching the careers of stars including Little Mix, One Direction, and Leona Lewis, Simon Cowell's show became a pop culture time capsule, the success of which many subsequent competition shows tried, and failed, to replicate.
After declining viewing figures and two years without a series, Simon has confirmed today that the show has been canned, with "no plans" to renew it.
Sources close to the music mogul suggest there is very little appetite for the series to return, even if auditions were possible for a 2022 series.
