While her son sustained 7 per cent burns on his body.According to prosecutors, Maloney purchased a 48-ounce can of vegetable oil at a supermarket and then attacked his relatives.Earlier reports suggested that he had been asked to leave the residence.Jayla’s father James Witt, said: “Jayla gave him a place to stay for a couple of nights because she’s got a soft heart like that.“When she asked him to leave, I’m sure that’s what made him mad, and that’s the reason he’s done this because she threw him out.”It was reported that he fled to Kentucky but investigators caught him.Maloney's defence argued that it was an accident and said he was trying to make Witt breakfast.
They claim he went upstairs and only threw oil on her when she started on him.However, the story changed several times and he was eventually sentenced to 37 years in prison for the burglary and assault.He received an extra 10 years because he was classified as a repeat violent offender, reports The Journal-News.Maloney previously plead guilty to beating a man to death with a baseball bat in 200.
