A woman's nose piercing infection led to an urgent liver transplant after the organ started rotting. Dana Smith, 37, got the piercing in November before noticing she started to feel sick with stomach ache and lost her appetite.
Hesitant to go to the hospital due to the pandemic, Dana, from New York, put it down to a bug and thought the sickness would pass.
But her illness worsened to the point where was unable to even keep water down. Dana said: "I was drinking water, I couldn't hold it own" - adding that she knew something was very wrong when she began "throwing up blood" Eventually, Dana felt so unwell she said she had "no choice" but to take herself to hospital - where medics found she had "massive necrosis" of the liver.
