Willie Thorne has revealed he has been diagnosed with leukaemia and is to start chemotherapy treatment. The 66-year-old, now based in Spain, was one of snooker’s biggest personalities in his 1980s heyday and was dubbed ‘Mr Maximum’ for his ability to rattle off 147 breaks in practice.
Thorne went on to become a popular BBC commentator and also featured as a contestant in Strictly Come Dancing. However, Thorne had previously been diagnosed with prostate cancer, and a serious gambling addiction saw him declared bankrupt in 2016.
He said on Twitter : “I realise everybody is having a tough time - mine just got worse. “I have been diagnosed with leukaemia.
