Star Trek actor William Shatner fought tears yesterday after finally facing the final frontier and going into space. After three decades playing Captain James T Kirk, the emotional 90-year old described actually leaving the planet as ‘the most profound experience I can imagine’.
In Star Trek, Kirk promised ‘to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilisations, to boldly go where no man has gone before’.
Yesterday he became the oldest person into orbit, not aboard the USS Enterprise, but in a rocket built by Blue Origin, owned by billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
