Jamal Khashoggi is "so sad" after a Saudi-led consortium completed a takeover of Newcastle United on Thursday. The Premier League approved the £305million deal after receiving "legally binding assurances" that the Saudi state would not control the club.Instead the Saudi Public investment Fund, which has the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman listed as its chair, will provide the majority of funds for the takeover.
Hatice Cengiz - who was engaged to Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist who was a critic of bin Salman and murdered in October 2018, has heavily criticised the deal.US intelligence accused bin Salman of having approved "an operation in Istanbul, Turkey to capture or kill Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi”.
