Christian Louboutin (a man who once said ‘high heels are pleasure with pain’) now sells as many midis and flats as stilettos.‘I don’t believe the midi ever quite went away, especially from exciting brands in much-loved styles,’ says Hollie Harding, womenswear buying manager at Browns. ‘But they are much more popular again now.
Brands such as By Far have brought back the 1990s midi heel and the style is already a bestseller. With lockdown easing, I do think the midi heel will continue to grow in sales, as it’s the perfect transition back to real life.’Harding is seeing a strong demand for cult brands like Amina Muaddi (see its Gilda mule style in leopard print) and Mach & Mach – as well as simpler styles from designers such as Neous and Jil.
