The 18-year-old had been lined up for a chance to impress Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, with most senior players still not back in training, and no sign of a Sergio Aguero replacement in sight, with a move for Harry Kane in a lull while Tottenham await his return from holiday.
With Guardiola saying last season that Delap would be part of his first-team squad, the player was hoping to catch the manager’s eye and possibly start in next week’s Community Shield curtain-raiser at Wembley.
