The number of coronavirus deaths has now surpassed 11,000 in the UK, with hundreds of new fatalities announced each day. A total of 11,329 patients have died in hospital after testing positive for coronavirus in the UK as of 5pm on Sunday, the Department of Health said, up by 717 from 10,612 the day before.
As the weeks drag on during lockdown a "Tuesday effect" has been noted by onlookers, the number of recorded deaths appears to spike on this day each week.
It is believed this is due to a lag in reporting deaths at the weekend and it highlights that the figures relate to the number of deaths registered, rather than the number of people that actually died.
