Boris Johnson has unveiled Britain's roadmap to recovery, with non-essential shops and businesses to reopen on April 12. The Prime Minister said a new four-step plan – subject to vaccination targets and new Covid variants - will ease lockdown and could see all social contact restrictions by June 21.
However, tens of thousands of workers could be out of work without furlough until early summer. Under the plan, shops, hairdressers, gyms and outdoor hospitality will reopen on April 12 in England if strict conditions are met.
Up to six people from separate households will also be able to meet in beer gardens from that date. However, unions said today's announcement fall short of any reassurance for workers that won't be back to work by April 30
