The mayoral election was scheduled to take place in May 2020 but was postponed, along with a number of other local votes, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Nine candidates will be on the ballot paper and it will be the second time the region has taken to the polls to choose a mayor.
They are in alphabetical order: Counting of the votes doesn't begin until two days after the vote - on the morning of Saturday, May 8.
