Jeff Smith, MP for Withington, Afzal Khan, MP for Gorton, Lucy Powell, MP for Manchester Central, Graham Stringer, MP for Blackley and Broughton and Kate Green, MP for Stretford and Urmston, have all signed a letter to the owners of both Manchester City and Manchester United.
It says they wish to express 'dismay' at the proposal and that constituents are outraged at the suggestion of a 'closed shop' of clubs who no longer have to qualify for Europe's elite competition.
