snowfall, forecasters say.New weather maps from WX Charts show nine inches of snow landing over northern parts of Scotland today (February 23) along with a tight band of heavy rain.Wednesday night into the following day then sees a much larger front of snow sweep across every corner of the United Kingdom, with flurries and patchy wintry showers appearing throughout Thursday.A much clearer day on Friday will come after, with the return of some flurries to higher ground in north Wales and the Highlands on Saturday.The especially wintry forecast has seen the Met Office apply a yellow warning for wind and snow for Scotland and Northern Ireland from 1pm today to 3pm on Thursday, with "frequent lightning" also predicted in this time frame.The Met Office outlook for Wednesday says: "Frequent, blustery showers in the north, turning colder with snow to low levels by evening.

Further south, sunny spells, isolated showers and mild. Gales, locally severe continuing across the north."The Environment Agency meanwhile had 141 flood alerts in force for England early on Wednesday morning after massive downpours during Storm Franklin left river levels dangerously high in a number of low-lying areas.This includes two severe 'danger to life' flood warnings on the River Severn at Ironbridge and Wribbenhall.A frightening evacuation message from the Environment Agency to residents in Wribbenhall yesterday evening read: "The temporary barriers at Beales Corner have exceeded their capacity on Tuesday afternoon, 22/02/22."We have withdrawn our operatives from behind the barriers.
