‘Petnup’ prenups are on the rise for animal owners who don’t want to be fighting like cat and dog over the cat and dog, should they split.There are 12 million pet dogs in the UK today, with charity PDSA estimating that 24 per cent of the adult population own one, and there was an estimated 84 per cent spike in dog ownership in London during 2020.

With post-lockdown divorce enquiries soaring by 122 per cent from July to October 2020 compared to the same period in 2019, according to law firm Stewarts, and a whole lot of ‘lockdown pup will save our marriage’ thinking, you can see things are going to get messy.So it stands to reason that petnup agreements are a growing business for legal firms in the UK, who advise loved-up couples that sorting.
