'We'll do whatever is necessary': The town backing Greater Manchester's new Covid measures

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has announced a 'strengthened support package' to combat the 'Delta' variant of the disease, first identified in India.

This follows the success of similar emergency measures in Bolton, where the infection rate is now falling. In Rochdale, there has been a 57pc increase in Covid cases to 132.2 per 100,000 of the population to the week ending June 3.

The town has the sixth highest rate in Greater Manchester. Action now being taken includes military-supported surge testing, tracing, isolation support, and maximising vaccine
