Wayne Rooney will take to the technical area for the first time after being named England manager for next month's Soccer Aid fixture.

The Derby County captain is Manchester United and England's record goalscorer and he returns to Old Trafford for the annual charity match.

His co-manager will be former Three Lions boss Sam Allardyce, the goalkeeping coach will be former England No1 David Seaman and the date and time of the fixture is expected to be announced by ITV in the coming days.

Rooney hinted at the announcement on his Twitter account earlier on Thursday and later confirmed his involvement in the world's biggest annual charity match by saying: “Taking part in Soccer Aid for Unicef is something I have wanted to do for many years. "
