Washing machine expert on why you should never use 'fast setting' for laundry

In a recent TikTok video, the shop owner says he doesn't recommend the "quick wash" setting and explains a better way to clean laundry without damaging the machine.Tapping the washing machine behind him, he says: "This is a 9kg Blomberg it can do a full load in 28 minutes which is really good but I don't recommend using that for every pile of washing."If you've got a load of towels you don't want to be using the 28-minute setting."Basically, you will throw your towels in, start it up, all the water goes in and those towels get really heavy."Twenty-eight minutes is not long enough for the drums to separate the towels."Explaining why "quick wash" is bad for towels, he says at 1,200 rotations a minute speed near the end of the cycle "if them towels all come together it can put a strain on the drum".A sign this has happened is a very loud noise and excessive shaking of the washing machine.Instead, the expert recommends using a washing setting of at least an hour-and-a-half so the towels fully separate and don't clump together in the machine.The video was watched more than 50,000 times since it was uploaded on Wednesday (March 23) and people debated if it saved money to wash laundry for longer.One user commented: "1.5 hr, have you heard about this year's price rises, I’m going to France to use a laundrette, it’s cheaper.""I would dare have my washer on for an hour or more I can’t afford all that water and electric," said a second.Wade replied: "Did you know if you use an eco setting 3.5 hours, it uses less energy?
