as an engineer, rising to join the company’s board in 1964 and named executive vice president in 1965. He became chairman and CEO in 1979, a position he held until 1998.

As Scott amassed wealth and became a billionaire, he often used his fortune to support charitable endeavors in Omaha, Nebraska, home of Peter Kiewit Sons Inc.

He donated large sums to the University of Nebraska at Omaha, the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the Joslin Art Museum, and the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, among others.
