Wagatha Christie judge says Caroline Watt 'likely deliberately' dropped phone in sea

Rebekah Vardy has sensationally lost the trial she brought against Coleen Rooney after accusing the fellow WAG of libel.The court battle came two-and-a-half years after Rooney broke the internet with a statement that claimed Vardy's Instagram account had been leaking stories published by the former to The Sun.READ MORE: How Peter Andre's penis was dragged into Rooney V Vardy Wagatha trial and his responseA judge has ruled that the informant was likely Vardy's agent, Caroline Watt, though Vardy knew about the leaks.Prior to the court battle between the two WAGs an order was made on August 4 for Ms Watt's phone to be inspected - but the agent claimed she dropped her phone into the North Sea in the same month.As the verdict was delivered on July 29, Mrs Justice Steyn said the likelihood that the loss of Watt's phone was accidental was "slim" and that it was "likely" she deliberately dropped her phone into the sea.The judge said the timing was "striking" as she added: "It is likely that the WhatsApp chat between herself and Mrs Vardy, as well as exchanges with journalists, was available on Ms Watt’s phone when she was advised very shortly after the reveal post that such evidence must be preserved."Mrs Justice Steyn added: "In my judgment, it is likely that Ms Vardy deliberately deleted her WhatsApp chat with Ms Watt, and that Ms Watt deliberately dropped her phone in the sea."Caroline Watt did not give evidence at the trial, with the judge believing Rebekah chose not to call her agent Caroline Watt to give evidence partly because she knew her evidence “would be shown to be untrue".Ms Watt had been due to give evidence in support of Mrs Vardy, however, she withdrew her evidence pre-trial, with the court told it was due to.
