Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp doesn’t do anything ordinary. After his Liverpool side were beaten in the 2017-18 Champions League final in Kyiv by a Gareth Bale-inspired Real Madrid, the German vowed to his fans to come back stronger — only he did it in song form.
Video footage recently resurfaced of the 54-year-old dancing and singing away, making a joke at Madrid’s expense but also making a well-disguised vow to gain revenge on the Spanish giants.
As the video emerged online of Liverpool fans burst out into song, Klopp joined in with two fans to belt out the humorous lyrics of the catchy tune: “We saw the European Cup, Madrid had all the f***ing luck,” they sang. “We swear we’ll keep on being cool, we’ll bring it back to Liverpool!” As fate would have it, he can now live up to that promise after being drawn against Carlo Ancelotti’s side for the final in Paris on May 28.
It will be the first time the teams have met since Real ran away 3-1 winners thanks to two glaring errors from Loris Karius gifted Bale and Karim Benzema easy goals to put away. The vagueness of such a promise may have gone unnoticed at the time, but Liverpool were extremely fired up for the final clash against Tottenham when they reached the showpiece event a year later.
