Axel Tuanzebe, who was on the fringe of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans last season, was sent out on loan to Aston Villa while Varane's transfer also meant that Victor Lindelof's place in the starting XI alongside regular partner Harry Maguire became vulnerable.
