Vernon Kay, 48, on surviving cancel culture (thanks to some sound advice from Richard Madeley), hating litter louts and how often he (honestly) watches Strictly.I’ve always been a massive dance music fan and sometimes I think 90s dance music gets overshadowed by Britpop and that Oasis vs Blur battle.
But those big Britpop anthems weren’t necessarily played in nightclubs at the time. And that’s what this show is all about – making people reminisce.
If I had to pick one track, it’s the Graeme Park remix of the Brand New Heavies’ Back To Love. It’s not the most iconic tune from the 90s but it’s the one all my mates knew and, when it came on, we’d find each other in whatever dingy nightclub we were in and we’d all dance and sing along together.
It sounds a bit soppy but looking back, it was an age of innocence.Oasis! Always! Hence the daft T4 haircut! Not really – because I mainly went to the Haçienda and it had passed the smiley face period by then.
