Van Morrison will be among those honouring President Michael D Higgins in a special televised event in celebration of the politician’s 80th birthday later this month.
The one-hour show of music and the arts will air on TG4, and will see Ireland’s poets, singers, musicians, thinkers, playwrights, and dancers celebrating Mr Higgins’s political and philosophical ideals.
In what will be his first Irish TV performance in 26 years, Morrison will perform a rendition of his song Burning Ground, sending birthday greetings to the President from Belfast.
Tolü Makay – who is Nigerian born but was raised in Tullamore, Co. Offaly – will perform her song Don’t Let Go with her four-piece band, from Dublin’s Rathfarnham Castle.
