An 'urban village' boasting hundreds of high rise apartments has been approved for Stockport town centre.Stockport College’s Greek Street campus is to be completely redeveloped to create the ‘Royal George Village’, after planners gave the scheme the green light.The project will also see the town’s Grade II* listed War Memorial Art Gallery become a focal point for what is intended to be a new ‘intergenerational community’,The three-acre site near the town hall will form part of the regeneration of ‘Town Centre West’, also known as the Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC).In total the scheme will bring 442 one and two-bedroom flats to the town centre.
