Universal Credit scheme can get discounts on their broadband and phone contracts.A little extra help to millions of Brits who need to claim benefits may be vital in the coming months as people face a cost of living crisis.BT, which serves millions of UK customers, is offering discounts on its tariffs that are cheaper than its usual bills, as well as the chance for EE customers to save a little extra on top of this.The pandemic also highlighted how vital home broadband is as people made the switch to working from home, but as food and energy bills soar, some may be forced into making a choice over what services they can actually use in their home.So how can people get EE and BT discounts?BT's Home Essentials plan offers broadband and internet for just £15 a month and this is for people on Universal Credit.There are no exit fees on this particular deal and people do not have to sign up for 18 months, with just one year given on the deal.The deal costs £15 per month and gives average internet speeds of 67Mb, while a call-only plan is just £9.99 a month.Anyone claiming means-tested benefits are also eligible, so not just people on Universal Credit.People on the following schemes are eligible:BT said: "You need to be receiving income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance to qualify for Home Essentials.
