Ukraine to host PDC darts tournament with World Championship place up for grabs

Darts history will be made at the next PDC World Championship when a Ukrainian player graces the famous Alexandra Palace stage for the first time ever.In announcing its list of international qualifying tournaments for the 2023 Worlds, the PDC confirmed a Ukrainian tournament will be held on October 15/16.

A qualifying spot is usually made available for the winner of the EuroAsian Darts Corporation Pro Tour, which features players from Russia and Belarus.

But following Vladimir Putin’s brutal invasion of Ukraine earlier this year that event was scrapped, with Russian and Belarusian players banned from competing. READ MORE: 'New' Gerwyn Price believes he can become 'unbeatable' but darts fans aren't so sure It’s place at the World Championship will now go to the winner of the Ukrainian qualifying event, which will reportedly be held in the capital Kyiv.Qualifying events will also be held in Asia, Africa and across Europe over the next few months to determine the final 96-player line-up for the 2023 edition of the sport’s premier event.A number of players have already booked their places, including North American champion Leonard Gates, top US player Danny Baggish and Canadian champion David Cameron.
