A severe weather warning has been extended as parts of the UK continue to be chilled to the bone tonight. The Met Office warns of the possibility of snow until midnight tonight across a vast area of the UK.

A release from the forecaster says: "Outbreaks of rain, sleet, and snow may still cause tricky driving conditions. "Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services. "Increased likelihood of traffic collisions due to tricky driving conditions." It adds: "The area of wet weather currently across this region, with snow falling across higher routes (above 300 m), and potential for heavier bursts to bring temporary lying snow down to around 100 m above sea level.
