Overnight frost is due to strike in Britain as temperatures plummet to 5C and more heavy rain sweeps in. The October cold snap is set to continue across the UK, with little in the way of sun on Monday as persistent rain and chilly temperatures dominate.
Met Office forecaster Luke Miall said today will be "quite grey, quite grotty" in a major U-turn from the milder conditions of Sunday.
He said as the day progresses, "cloud will continue to invade its way eastwards and that rain pushes its way in, bringing some heavy rain at times".
Temperature charts show much of the country struggling to remain in double figures, with the south coast the coldest this morning.
