Britain is set for a big autumn chill as today's temperatures struggle in the low teens and rain sweeps across the country. Parts of the UK were forecast to drop to freezing in the early hours of Wednesday as heavy blustery showers arrive.
Met Office forecaster Alex Deakin said brighter skies could feature over the weekend, but before that "spells of rain, gusty winds...and a much cooler feel" are likely.
He said there will be sun across northern Britain today despite the chill and in amongst the scattered showers, though England and Wales will see "a very big change".
