British holidaymakers heading to Tenerife have been warned of new restrictions coming into force this Friday at a popular tourist attraction.

The government of the island has announced new regulations for anyone hiking to the summit of Mount Teide. Among the news measures are limits on the number of people who can hike up the volcano, which will be capped at 300 per day, Tenerife’s president Rosa Davila has confirmed.

Visitors will be divided across three time slots throughout the day. All hikers will have to register via the ‘Tenerife ON’ app and book onto time slots between 9am and 4pm, 4pm and midnight, and midnight to 9am.

To make sure that people stick to the rules, the Teide National Park will deploy 24-hour support staff throughout the year, local news site Canarian Weekly reports.
