Britain faces a growing threat of chemical and biological attacks due to a "breakdown of world order", the defence secretary has warned.
Ben Wallace has blamed heightened fears on some regimes now believing it acceptable to use nerve agents and pathogens to attack their enemies.
The warning comes as the nation's terrorism threat level is reduced from 'severe' to 'substantial' - although home secretary Priti Patel has warned an attack is still "likely".
Mr Wallace specifically mentioned the deadly Novichok poisonings in Salisbury in 2018 while speaking to The Times, which are widely believed to have been ordered by Russian president Vladimir Putin.
